I was given the privilege to work with a client who is a realtor, singer, author and mother. For this project she was looking to send out pamphlets to her past clients with regards to home listings she was working on and had successfully sold. She also wanted to use the opportunity to showcase a new book she had written and published.

Her Vision

When consulting with my client it was all done through the phone. She had already drafted a layout which I could work with. The sketches provided me with a good understanding of what my clients expectations were. I was given creative freedom with regards to font choice, colours and decorative elements.

Design Process

Before starting I was given a sample of a pamphlet that had been done for her before. I noticed that she had a constant use of red for her previous pamphlet but also for her realtor website. The overall design was bland which was a contrast to how the client came across over the phone. The client in comparison, seemed very vibrant and had an overall fun and playful tone to the way she spoke. Later I was given her second website which she had been developing with a web designer for her music and author related work. After looking at this website, I realized that my client was not afraid of colour and portrayed her playful side on the second website.

Final Result

For the finished pamphlet, I decided to merge both contrasting ideas of professionalism and playfulness. I used vibrant colours and incorporated a yellow which is used in her website but had not been used in her previous pamphlet. I made sure to only use red, yellow, black and white for the interior of the pamphlet to maintain professionalism. However, for the back page I decided to incorporate a rainbow boarder to showcase her book which used a rainbow colour scheme as well. I also used other features shown on the book cover to add as decorative elements. For the text, I used different variations of 'Din' to establish hierarchy. To tie the exterior and interior pages together I kept a thin red line at the bottom.

Reflection

This experience taught me how to work with professional content and gave me the freedom to expand on the clients brand. It taught me to work independently and within a tight deadline. I was able to successfully manage my time to complete the project before the deadline. Overall the success of this project, lead my client to express interest in my future involvement with redesigning her realtor website.
